Making my Story, Living my Dream

Meet Carmen Patino! An SJSU Junior majoring in Communication Studies and minoring in Creative Writing.

When Carmen first started college, her community college professors encouraged her to write her own blog as a platform to use her voice. Following that advice, she decided to kick off her #sidehustle by writing her blog: The Resilient Chick.

After making a name for herself, Carmen’s creative content took flight when she received the opportunity to become an editor for Reed Magazine.

“I wanted to get insight into what the publishing life was like and better understand my strengths and weaknesses,” she says.

Carmen’s side hustle earned her a spot at the Association of Writers & Writing Programs conference in Washington D.C. This conference with 15-20,000 attendees, offers multiple workshops, including travel writing. Way to go Carmen! To learn more about our other Fellows, please visit our Instagram page @BeBraven.
